We Went to Quebec...Accidentally

The people at LCC who are helping us with our immigration paperwork told us that we need to have Bethany's birth certificate and our marriage certificate "authenticated for use abroad."  You can do this by sending the originals through the mail, or by taking the documents to Ottawa in person.  There was also something about sending photocopies through the mail, but the copies had to be certified by a notary or something like that, and that sounded compicated to me.

I didn't want to send the originals through the mail, and plus I thought that a day trip to Ottawa sounded like fun, so off Bethany and I went yesterday.

Once I actually got to the office, it only took about 10 minutes and I was on my way.  But before I got to the office, I

- got off at the wrong exit on the 417
- didn't get off at the right exit on King Edward St. (or something like that)
- went to Quebec
- went the wrong way on Sussex Dr. (just the opposite way from what I intended; not against traffic or anything)!  :)
- pulled into the parking lot at 125 Sussex instead of 111 Sussex

:)

But we eventually got there.  Then we went out for lunch (Bethany makes for great dinner conversation), and then we came home.  All in all a good day.

ps - Have any parents out there ever gotten through a reading of "I'll Love You Forever" without choking up?  I'm 0-for-1 as of this afternoon.

  1. Thanks for making the trek to Ottawa on our behalf, Jess, especially with all the unexpected twists and turns the trip involved.

  2. That reminds me of what happened to Deborah & I. I went to visit her one time in Ottawa and we went to enjoy the scenery in a park. Forgot what the place called. We left the park and Deborah didn't recognize where we are but eventually we realized that we're in Quebec because of the streets signs and Deborah didn't know how to get out. It was a panic & funny experience but we finally got back in Ottawa to our much relief because it was getting very dark and didn't know where we are. I'm glad that you and Bethany aren't too lost in Quebec like we did and that you got everything done that you needed to get done.

  3. Leah, I thought that happened to you & me when we went to visit Deborah. Or did that happen to you & Deborah, too? Or did it never happen to you & me? My memory seems to be failing me.

  6. Yeah, something about a Pioneer (or was it a First Nations?) Village - that sounds familiar.
