Baking

I guess I should wash the spatula before we start.

Can you guess what we're making?

The recipe called for ground cloves.  I could only find whole cloves, so we put 'em in a ziploc bag and smashed 'em with a honey jar, naturally.

Even after we both smashed and smashed, I must admit they weren't fully ground.  But when the bag started leaking clove powder onto the counter, I decided that was good enough.

The honey jar also doubled (tripled?) as a rolling pin.  We're resourceful around these parts.

This was the best "stirring" photo I could get, because I had to grab her before she, well, you can see what was about to happen.  And then in the next attempt, she was crying because I had just dashed her "shoving my hand in the butter" dreams, so this is the photo you get.

Any guesses yet?  If you could smell it, you'd know!  (Yes, those specks are chunks of clove.  Who cares.)

Yup, a gingerbread house!  This is as far as we got today, so you'll have to stay tuned to see the finished decorated product.

Side note: I was reading a review of this recipe, (which I got here, in case you wanted to know), and the reviewer said something like, "Well, I had to triple this recipe to make enough for my template - a two-storey colonial"  !?!

Ok then.  I'll be happy if we can get ours to stand up long enough to take a picture!  :)  And actually, we're planning a Christmas party for Dec. 21, so it'd be cool to be able to have it as a decoration then, too.
