As some of my long-time readers may have figured out, Monday night is date night. :) So we printed out our new groupon, dropped Bethany off with some friends, and we were on our way. We got as far as the driveway, realized we had left the printout in the diaper bag, went back up to the friends' door, knocked, got the paper from the diaper bag, said good bye to Bethany again, and then we were really on our way.
We got there. As we were placing our orders, the girl working there noticed the paper in my hand. "Do you have the groupon?" she asked.
"Yup."
"You have to use it all at once."
"Uh..." All at once? As in, $30 worth of ice cream all at once? I started reading the fine print, and got prepared to be all indignant once I proved her wrong. Huh. It didn't say anything either way about using the $30 all in one shot. Which means it didn't say anything about not having to use it all in one shot. So much for proving her wrong.
So...
The good part is that they also sell ice cream by the litre to take home, as well as the stuff you eat in cones while you're there. And the other (good?) part is that it's rather pricey, so it's actually not that hard to spend $30. As well as our cones, we ended up with a litre of Sweet Cream and a litre of White Chocolate to take with us. We decided to give one of them to our friends who were watching Bethany.
Now the other part about date night, (and the parents out there, especially the moms, will be able to relate to this), is that I have this strong, magnetic-like attachment to Bethany. After I've been away from her for about an hour, I miss her like crazy and really want to get back to her. But it's good for us both, all three of us actually, to get used to having a babysitter. Date nights are important. We need to not forget about our marriage in the midst of parenting. In light of this, as we were walking out to our car in the parking lot, I was telling
Just as I was saying this I pulled the phone out of my pocket to show
3 Missed Alerts.
Oh.
Phil just started laughing, and continued kicking clumps of snow away from the wheel wells. I read the texts in reverse order, which I think makes it funnier.
8:22pm: "Kyle's rocking her... haha, turn taking. she'll be good from here on out."
Well, that's good. I was laughing too at this point. I read the next one:
8:20pm: "She's fine now...falling asleep in her carseat."
Fine now? I wonder what the next one (first one) says.
8:16pm: "Bethanys not having the best time at our place. I'm totally fine w it but she seems to b making strange..."
Well, as you've probably guessed, she was fine. She was asleep in the car seat when we got back. They said she had been happy for the first chunk of time. After that I think she was just tired. So, we were thanking them and getting ready to go, and they casually threw in, "Oh, and she rolled over."
!!
Now, I saw Bethany do this twice one day a few weeks ago but not since, and so far Phil has never seen it. We'll have to "practice" today, (how do you do that, exactly?), and maybe I'll get her to do it and then she can show Phil when he gets home. But of course, things don't usually work out just how you want them to like that. Anyways, he'll see it eventually.
So that was date night. Our ice cream-filled date night. This morning we were going to go swimming, but Bethany's napping now and swimming ends at 11:00. So I guess we'll stay home today and swim on Thursday.
Now I'm off to boil carrots to turn into baby food. But that's a story for another post!
Sweetie, this was such a good recounting of last night's events. It captured really well both the minor frustrations and major joys of last night. And looking back on it, I just laughed at it all as I read your blog-post. Thanks for posting it! It'll be nice to have these for posterity's sake.
ReplyDeleteWow! Sounds like a great deal groupon and a fun date. Too bad I don't eat ice cream. So it's no good for me and besides I can't use the groupon in where I live. Hope you will enjoying eating the litre of ice cream at home.
ReplyDeleteOnce Bethany started rolling more often, maybe you can videotaping and post it? I would love to see her doing it too.
Huh? Bethany is not 6 months old yet. Is she ready to eat baby food like carrots?
Hey Leah
DeleteThat's a good idea, I should post a video of Bethany rolling over. You're right, we'll have to wait until she starts doing it more often.
Good point about the baby food. I'm making it to put in the freezer for later.
