Well, That Was a First

I went to Canadian Tire to get Bethany a life jacket.  I saw a sign that said Boat on the side of the second floor balcony-ish thing.  I said to an employee:

[Me]: I'm looking for a lifejacket.  I'm guessing it would be up on the second floor with the boat stuff?
[him]: yup.
[me]: Is there an elevator?  (did I mention I was pushing Bethany in the stroller?)
[him]: nope.
[me]: considering asking the guy if I can just leave Bethany there beside him where he's stocking shelves (right beside the stairs to the balcony), so I can run up and grab a lifejacket.  Thinking that maybe instead I'll go up and ask one of the cashiers if I can leave her up there...(she was sleeping, so I didn't want to lift her out of the stroller and wake her up)
[him]: he's fine right there; I can watch him.
[me]: (Bethany's gender has been mistaken by strangers so many times that I hardly care anymore).  ok, sure.

It probably took me all of 45 seconds to go up and grab a life jacket and come back down.  Bethany was perfectly fine.

That wasn't nearly as daring as yesterday when I left her sleeping in her crib while I went down and got the laundry from the dryer.  But I won't tell you about that one.  The grandparents might start to worry.  :)

In other "first" news, Bethany tried solid food for the first time on Monday night.  It was chicken that I just blended up with some water.  I don't think she really liked it, but she did ok.  I tried posting a video of it to the blog, but it won't work for some reason.  Tonight we're going to try carrots.  Maybe she'll like those better.  She also tried a rice rusk which she did really well with.  She just grabbed a hold of it and ate the whole thing.

And then last night she had one of her best sleeps ever.  Maybe solids will help her to go longer at night.  Whohoo!

  1. Aww...I'm disappointed that the blog won't let you post the video. Maybe you can do another video of Bethany eating the rice rusk or carrots and try posting again?

  2. Thanks for another great blog post, Jess. Thanks, too, for being so amazingly helpful after work yesterday! Even after a long day with Bethany that included getting a life-jacket and trying out carrots for the first time, you were so patient and accommodating in allowing me to get my marking finished at home. You're an awesome wife!
