1. Bethany and I had heard through a friend of a friend that there was this thing at the YMCA called Tumble. She said there was a gym with lots of toys where the kids could run around and play. (Granted, Bethany is too young to run around, but that hasn't stopped us yet!) So we checked it out. Lame-o. Yeah. The gym was maybe a quarter of the size of the one in my elementary school. There were two plastic slides and a ratty old soccer ball. And no other people. Well, one other family came part way through. Okay then. I think we'll stick to swimming. On the bright side, the guy at the front desk gave us a free swim pass for next time. I think he got the picture that I was less than impressed with Tumble.
2. Bethany has somehow managed to scratch the side of her nose and re-open the scab that was there from the last time she scratched it. Even with freshly-cut fingernails.
3. Tomorrow night is Family Night! Hooray!
4. Today I took an old stereo to Future shop to be recycled. One of the employees came out to the car and carried it in for me. How nice!
5. We learned at our church business meeting last night that as of Dec. 31, 2012 our church is debt-free! Praise the Lord!
6. Tonight for supper we're having this:
7. And this:
Plus whatever frozen vegetables are stuffed in the back of the freezer.
8. Bethany's new favourite toys are her feet.
9. Speaking of toys, our neighbours brought over a little toy and a really pretty outfit for Bethany yesterday. Again, how nice!
10. The weather here is messy. As in, close-the-schools-and-send-the-kids-home-in-the-middle-of-the-day messy.
11. ...maybe I should have made this Ten Tidbits...
12. Bethany and I took a break between tidbit 11 and tidbit 12 to switch the laundry over. The laundry room is busy. As in, busier-than-I've-ever-seen-it busy. No idea why. Must be something about a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
13. We have small group tonight. We're studying Mark. Somehow we're only on study 11 even though we've been doing this since September. Not sure about that one either.
14. Tomorrow Focus on the Family is doing an episode called "How to Have a Happier Husband." Must listen in. Sounds useful!
15. We're going to a SuperBowl party. It's for ages 10 and up. Do you think we'll be able to sneak Bethany in the door?
16. For some reason neither Phil nor I can quite figure out, we both very much dislike making his lunch. Well, a few weeks ago on some ill-thought-through whim, I promised to make it every day for the rest of January. May I point out, January is almost over? Yipee!
17. I used to like scented candles. Then when I was pregnant, I couldn't stand them. Then I sort of forgot about them. Just a few minutes ago I lit one, and after a couple minutes I couldn't stand it anymore and I had to blow it out. Hmm. Residual hormones, perhaps? Or maybe it's all in my head? (NO, I'm not pregnant). Maybe it's just this candle in particular. I really like the cinnamon-y one Phil gave me for Christmas. This one is some melon thing.
18. In Ladies' Coffee Hour we're studying End Times. We've only done two weeks so far, but so far the conversation has been kind of watery. The other ladies in my group have it stuck in their heads that we shouldn't get into controversies (Titus 3:9). I'm really hoping the discussion gets meatier in the coming weeks. (And I'll point out here that the verse says to avoid foolish controversies, not all controversies).
19. Bethany would like me to tell you that in between tidbits 15 and 16 she went down for a nap. No fussing. I just nursed her and then held her for a minute while she dozed off, and then she went right into her bed and didn't cry when I put her down. Great job, Sweetheart!
20. It has taken me so long to write this that the laundry is probably ready to come out of the dryer now. But Bethany's sleeping. So I guess I'll get to work on the stuffing bake.

Do you guys ever think that maybe neither of you like making Phil's lunch because he wouldn't be at home to eat with you & Bethany?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can get Phil to say that he'll do his lunches for the whole month of February to give you a break?
I think this might be the greatest blog post ever! I loved reading each and every tidbit. I'm glad that it was twenty tidbits (even if you weren't - thanks for all twenty). I'm especially glad you included tidbit #5: that is definitely something to give thanks for as a church. As for Leah's suggestion, I'll need to think about that... Thanks for all the January lunches, Sweetie!
