The Stork

A few times we've seen a stork walking around campus.  But until today, we'd never seen him quite this close to our apartment!

For the first picture, I'm standing in our living room taking the picture through the window glass.  For the second and third one, I opened the window (it opens wide!), and leaned out to take the picture.  For the fourth pic I went into our bedroom and opened the window to take the picture.  I was kind of nervous to open the window though, it was so close!

I said the stork was like our pet and Phil wondered aloud what we should name him (her?).  Any ideas?

On our first three Sundays here, we went to City Church.  We've enjoyed it.  It has about 75-ish people, the music is good, and they have English translation through headphones.  They don't have Sunday School for under age 4, but one of the nice things about the headphones is that even if Phil or I have to take Bethany out, we can still hear the sermon because we're still wearing our headphones.

Even though we're pretty happy there, we thought this week we'd try out a different church.  This one was much smaller (20-ish people), but we both liked it more than we thought we would.  There were quite a few LCC'ers there, and on this particular Sunday there were more English-speakers there than Lithuanian-speakers!  At this one somebody just translated the sermon into English out loud, so the pastor would pause after every few words to let her do that.  They also didn't have Sunday School.  Well, they kind of did, but it didn't really kick in until the service was almost over...??

Anyway, we'll probably keep going to City Church, but it was nice to try somewhere different for this week.  There's also a chapel service on campus each week that starts this Wednesday (singing in English - hooray!)  :)  And on Sunday evenings there's an international English-speaking fellowship that meets downtown.  They only meet during the school year, though, and it doesn't start until next week.

It's fun to try out all these different things.  And it's quite hilarious to listen to ourselves try to sing in Lithuanian!  :)

So we've had a good weekend.  Yesterday we did some shopping at a big mall in the south part of the city.  We got Bethany's birthday present (shh!), Phil got some clothes (he's a professor now, you see, so he has to look spiffy!) and I got running shoes (Phil unknowingly packed mine into the storage unit in Kingston).

And now, it's a beautiful day, so I'm headed out to the front yard to play with my two favourite people.

Oh, and by request, here are some pictures of the pond in front of our building.

  1. Is the stork still there? Have you decided on the name yet? If yes, what it is?

    1. I haven't seen the stork in awhile. But now there are a couple of swans in the pond, that weren't there before.

We never did end up naming the stork.

    2. You saw swans too? Wow! Lucky you! You see cool animals from where you live. Maybe next time you see swans, can you please take a picture and show it to me? I would love to see that.
